2024 School Applications Now Open In Northern Cape

The Northern Cape Department of Education has opened 2024 online school applications for Grade R, Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners. Here is everything you should know about the online application process.

Parents and legal guardians of learners in the Northern Cape province have been urged to complete applications for learners who will be in Grade R, Grade 1 and Grade 8 in 2024 using the online learner admission system.

The Northern Cape Department of Education opened its 2024 online learner admissions on 22 May 2023, which will remain open until 22 June 2023.

Parents and guardians have been urged to apply during the application period in order to secure a school placement for learners.

The department regards the early enrolment of learners as a priority for the start of a successful academic year.

More than 70 000 applications across all five districts in the province have already been received by the department and so far no challenges have been reported.

In order to apply online, parents must log onto the department’s learner admissions website and complete the three-step application process.

During these steps the parent or guardian will complete registration, learner profiling and the application.

The following documents must be submitted within seven days of starting the application process:

  • South African citizens must submit the following:
    • Copy of the parent/legal guardian Identity Document (ID) or card or a sworn affidavit if the person does not have an ID.
    • Proof of home address
    • Child’s birth certificate or affidavit or sworn statement
    • Clinic card as proof of immunisation (Grade R and 1)
    • Most recent Grade 7 learner progress report.
  • Non-South African citizens must submit the following:
    • Parent or legal guardian passport or similar documents
    • Learner valid study permit, asylum seeker, refugee permit or temporary or permanent residence issued by Department of Home Affairs
    • Proof of home address
    • Proof of immunisation (Grade R and 1)
    • Most recent Grade 7 learner progress report.

The department is aware that the province has many rural areas where certain communities are experiencing issues with internet connectivity which may impact the online application process.

In order to assist those without internet connectivity, 83 walk-in centres have been provided to assist people with completing applications.

Parents or guardians who are applying for other grades can apply directly to schools for admission and placements.
