Applicants who received an unsuccessful status for their NSFAS application will be able to apply for reconsideration of their application. Here is how they may apply for reconsideration.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government bursary that provides funding to students who are unable to afford tertiary education. The bursary covers students who intend on studying at a public university or Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College in the country.
NSFAS applications for the 2023 academic year closed on 31 January 2023. Since then, students have been receiving their application results.
Students may visit their myNSFAS account to check their application status. Application results will not be emailed to students so they will need to make use of one of the following options:
myNSFAS:
- Visit the NSFAS website.
- Click the myNSFAS button in the top right corner of the screen.
- Enter your username and password.
- Select the “I’m not a robot” box.
- Log in to your account.
- Scroll down to “Application Tracker”.
- Select “View Applications”.
- Click “Track Application”.
Students will be able to see their application status.
WhatsApp:
- Add +27 (78) 519 8006 to your contacts.
- Send the number a message.
- Receive application status.
USSD:
- Dial *120*67327#.
- Type 1 and select “send”.
- Enter your National ID number.
- You will receive an OTP (one-time pin) to your phone number and email address.
- Follow the steps to receive your application status.
Students with an application status that reads “Application Unsuccessful” will unfortunately not be approved for NSFAS funding. Their application may have been declined due to not meeting one or more of the bursary requirements.
Those who wish to appeal the application may do so on their myNSFAS account. Students will need to submit their appeal and supporting documents within 30 days of receiving their application status.
How To Submit A NSFAS Appeal:
- Visit the NSFAS website.
- Click the myNSFAS button in the top right corner of the screen.
- Enter your username and password.
- Select the “I’m not a robot” box.
- Log in to your account.
- Click on the “Appeal” tab.
- Complete Appeal.
- Submit supporting documents.
