If you have submitted an application for student funding through NSFAS and had your application rejected, you’ll be pleased to know that the bursary scheme still allows you to lodge an appeal. But you have a limited amount of time to do so.
Pursuing higher education can be a costly endeavour, as not all students have the financial means to fund their studies. That’s why the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was established to assist students from disadvantaged backgrounds with funding their studies.
However, not all students who apply for NSFAS funding are successful in their application. In such cases, lodging a NSFAS appeal can be a crucial step towards securing the financial assistance needed to pursue your studies.
So if you are a 2023 NSFAS applicant who has had the misfortune of your application being deemed unsuccessful, The bursary scheme has recently stated that you can now appeal your application.
“The NSFAS appeal functionality on the myNSFAS portal is active. All applicants with unsuccessful application status may log onto their myNSFAS account and submit an appeal application, with the required information and documents.”
Students can go about lodging their application appeal using the steps listed below:
How To Appeal on myNSFAS:
- Log into your “myNSFAS” account
- Click the ‘Track Funding Progress’ option
- Check the application progress tabs
- If your application status reflects an unsuccessful message, you may submit an appeal by clicking on the ‘Submit Appeal Tab’
- Once you are on the ‘Application Appeal’ page, you can see the reason for your unsuccessful application status
- You are then able to choose the appeal reason
- Then upload certified supporting documents to support your reason
- Then click ‘Submit Appeal’
You may now track the progress of the appeal on your myNSFAS account. NSFAS has further stated that all students who have exceeded the N+2 or N+23 will not be able to appeal their rejected application.
Note that you have 30 days to submit an appeal. It is also very important for impacted applicants to be aware that the opportunity to lodge appeals will only be open until Monday, 20 February 2023.
