Western Cape Late School Admission Applications Close Today

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) opened applications for the 2025 school year on 13 March 2024 until 14 April 2024. However a window for late applications was opened by the WCED and today is your last chance to apply.

Although the Education Department provided one month for parents and caregivers to ensure that their children were admitted for the 2025 academic year, many parents did not meet this deadline. This prompted the WCED to open the late applications portal until today, 25 May 2024.

If you have not yet submitted an application, you can do so online on the WCED website and follow the prompts. It is important that you apply to more than one school, so that your child has a better chance of getting placed at a school of your choice.

In 2024, over 1,000 Western Cape learners were unplaced at the beginning of the school year, a common occurrence each year across the country. To avoid this, it is essential that you submit an application for your child promptly.

This admissions process applies to Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners in the Western Cape only.

WCED Portal Update

WCED MEC, David Meynier, has urged parents who have registered for 2025 to ensure that their login details are correct before 29 May 2024. From this date you will be able to log into the online portal to check the outcome of your application as schools upload them.

Thousands of parents have forgotten their login details since submitting applications over two months ago and will need to reset them. If you wait until 29 May 2024, it may result in delays if password reset request volumes are high.

By testing out your password prior to 29 May 2024, it will mean that you will have access to the online portal straight away, allowing you to access application outcomes immediately.

Since the closing of the on-time application process on 14 April 2024, the Governing Body has been sorting out placements for next year.

To test out your login details, you can visit the WCED customer help section on their website.

The WCED has received over 150,000 applications, so it is important that request assistance as soon as possible to prevent any delays with accessing the online portal.
