The Higher Education and Training Department has released the final TVET College Calendar which lecturers may use to plan their lecture schedule for the 2023 academic year. Here is what lectures can expect for the 2023 academic year.
The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has released the final TVET College Calendar for the 2023 academic year. The calendar is only applicable to the lecturing staff.
Separate timetables have been released for the National Certificate Vocational (NCV), Report 191: Business and Utility Studies, and Report 191: Natural Science Studies lecturers. Here are the dates for the following courses:
National Certificate Vocational (NCV)
Term 1:
- Staff: 9 January – 31 March
- Students: 18 January – 31 March
Students will have 51 lecturing days. Supplementary exams will take place from 13 February to 8 March 2023.
Term 2:
- Staff and Students: 11 April – 23 June
50 days of lecturing will take place in Term 2.
Term 3:
- Staff and students: 17 July – 22 September
Internal examinations will last for 14 days.
Term 4:
- Staff and students: 2 October – 8 December
Lectures will be for 25 days in Term 4. Students will write Life Skills and Computer Literacy paper 2 exams from 1 to 7 November 2023. Examinations will take place from 8 November to 8 December 2023.
Report 191: Business and Utility Studies
Term 1:
- Staff: 9 January – 31 March
- Students: 18 January – 31 March
Students will have 51 lecturing days.
Term 2:
- Staff and Students: 11 April – 23 June
Lectures will be for 26 days in Term 2. Mid-year exams will start on 23 May and end on 23 June 2023.
Term 3:
- Staff: 17 July – 22 September
- Students: 24 July – 22 September
Students will have lectures for 44 days.
Term 4:
- Staff and students: 2 October – 8 December
Lectures will be for 30 days. Examinations will take place from 8 November to 8 December 2023.
Report 191: Natural Science Studies
Trimester 1:
- Staff: 9 January – 20 April
- Students: 18 January – 20 April
Students will have lectures for 47 days. Examinations will take place from 27 March to 20 April 2023.
Trimester 2:
- Staff: 16 May – 18 August
- Students: 22 May – 18 August
Lectures will be for 48 days. Examinations will take place from 28 July to 18 August 2023.
Trimester 3:
- Staff: 4 September – 8 December
- Students: 13 September – 8 December
Students will have lectures for 47 days. Examinations will take place from 20 November to 8 December 2023.
Lecturers will need to use the time when students are not on campus to plan lessons and assessments, have subject and faculty meetings, lecturer training, work integrated learning and work-based experience, and do administrative work.
The DHET advises lecturers not to deviate from the approved calendar without approval from the Director-General of the Department of Higher Education and Training.
