How To Submit Your SMU 2024 Application

The Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University is a university located in Pretoria North, Gauteng province. If you are looking into taking a career into the health sciences field, then this is a university that you can consider.

Formerly known as the Medical University of South Africa, the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University has managed to produce leaders in the health sector and as well as in politics.

Among its notable alumni is medical doctor/politician Dr. Mpho Phalatse, Dr. Sikhulile Moyo who is a virologist working as the laboratory director of the Botswana–Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership and Dr. Marlena Kruger who is both a medical researcher and academic, just to mention a few.

All three individuals have different journeys but it all started at the Health Sciences University.

If you too would like to apply at this university, there are five schools to choose from, namely Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Care Sciences, Oral Health Sciences including Science & Technology.

Here are two ways that you can choose from when applying:

1. Online Application

  • – click on the university’s website
  • – you’ll be asked if you already have a student number, click ‘yes’ if you already have one if not, click on ‘no’
  • – fill in all of your details that are required
  • – upload documents
  • – submit application

2. Manual Application

  • – Complete an application form in full and answer all questions with black ink
  • – Specify the names of the first-choice and second choice degrees (if applicable)
  • – Complete the residence section (if applicable)
  • – Pay the non-refundable application fee of R200.00
  • – Submit application form and proof of payment to the university’s postal address

Should you not submit the required documentation within a period of two months, your application will not be considered.

According to the university, meeting admissions requirements does not guarantee admission to selected qualifications and residence.

Should you not be admitted to this university, you may want to explore bridging courses that will help you get into the healthcare industry.
