Laptops were provided to learners as part of the government’s mission to ensure that students were not affected by the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation directed NSFAS to procure learning devices for students to assist in the blended learning environment.

It was then that the NSFAS Digital Learning Device Programme was introduced.

NSFAS stated that the tenders for the laptops were awarded to four service providers and all were successfully tested by the organization.

The awarded service providers included Pinnacle Micro (R3 863.56 cost per unit), CEOS Technologies (R5 290 cost per unit), and MLO Distinctive Solutions (R5 300 cost per unit), and East Side Group (R5 750 cost per unit).

Students received laptops with Microsoft Windows, tracking software, chargers, and a laptop bag that was 100% locally manufactured.

Millions of students benefitted from the programme and continue to use their devices to improve their learning experience.
