As Sassa continues with the current month’s grant payments, the agency called on recipients of the child support grant to collect their grant payment, as today marks their turn on the March payment schedule.
If you are among the millions of South Africans who rely on the monthly payout of a permanent Sassa social grant, then you will be pleased to know that the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is still in the process of paying out the Child Support Grant.
Sassa revealed their grant payment schedule for March a few weeks ago during February. The agency usually processes grant payments during the first week of each month.
This month’s social grant payments began with Old Person’s Grant on Thursday 2 March 2023 and followed with the payments of the Disability Grant the following day. Today, Sassa will be processing payments for the Child Support Grant.
Grant recipients are reminded that they can collect their grant payments through various methods such as ATMs and retail outlets. These stores include Shoprite Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay as well Boxer.
Beneficiaries are also urged to remember that they don’t have to collect their grant payment on the exact payment day, as the funds will remain available to them until they choose to manage it.
The Child Support Grant is a government-funded social assistance programme that provides financial aid to eligible families responsible for the care and upbringing of children. This grant is paid monthly and helps to alleviate the financial burden that often comes with raising children.
Understandably, beneficiaries in some parts of the country may be anxious about not receiving their payments on time.
This is primarily due to the challenges that were revealed following Western Cape Social Development MEC, Sharna Fernandez’s visit to the agency’s branch office in Bellville Cape Town last month. Beneficiaries complained of payment delays as well poor management and long queues at the branch.
In response, Sassa stated that their queue management system prioritises the assistance of beneficiaries who make appointments before visiting the branch, adding that ongoing load shedding also negatively impacts their ability to assist beneficiaries.
The agency has also, on multiple occasions, advised beneficiaries to ensure that their contact details are up to date and that they have activated their banking details for electronic payments. This will help to ensure that payments are processed smoothly and without any delay.
