University Of Mpumalanga Courses And Their Requirements

The University of Mpumalanga offers students the opportunity to study towards their dreams. Applicants should be mindful of the courses and their entry requirements.

Having been founded as recently as 2014, in its almost 10 years of existence the University of Mpumalanga has made great strides in creating a space where young South Africans can harness their knowledge and skills.

The university has 3 separate faculties under which a student can study, which include: the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Education, and the Faculty of Economics, Development and Business Sciences.

Between the different faculties, there are seven schools of study. These schools include:

  • School of Agricultural Sciences
  • School of Biology and Environmental Sciences
  • School of Computing and Mathematics

Faculty of Education

  • School of Early Childhood Education

Faculty of Economics, Development and Business Sciences

However, to be so lucky as to be a part of this student body, students will have to meet a number of entry requirements. For each entry-level higher certificate, diploma, or bachelor’s qualification to be enrolled for, there are a different set of requirements.

The following are the different entry-level diplomas and degrees that can be pursued at the University of Mpumalanga and the entry requirements one must meet to be eligible for the programme:

School of Agricultural Sciences

Diploma in Agriculture in Plant Production:

  • National Senior Certificate (NSC) with APS score of 23 with Mathematics/24 with Mathematics Literacy. Level 4 (50-59%) in English, Mathematics Literacy (or Level 3 (40-49%) in Mathematics) and Agriculture/Life Sciences/Geography.
  • A completed National Certificate Vocational (NC (V) ) with Level 4 in Primary Agriculture, Level 4 in English, Level 3 in Math and Level 6 (70-79%) in Math Lit.

Diploma in Animal Production

  • NSC with APS score of 24 with Math or 27 with Math Lit, a Level 4 in English, Level 3 in Math or Level 6 in Math Lit, Level 3 in Physical Science and Level 4 in Life Sciences/Agriculture.
  • A completed NC (V) Level 4 in Primary Agriculture with Level 4 in English, Level 3 in Math and Level 6 in Math Lit.

Bachelor of Agriculture in Agricultural Extension and Rural Resource Management

  • NSC with APS score of 26 with Math or 28 with Math Lit, a Level 4 for in English, Agricultural Science/Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Math (or Level 6 in Math Lit).

Bachelor of Science in Forestry

  • NSC with APS of 30, and a Level 4 in English, Mathematics, Physical Science, and two subjects from Life Science, Agricultural Science or Geography.

School of Biology and Environmental Sciences

Diploma in Nature Conservation

  • NSC met with minimum requirements and an APS of 30, a Level 4 in English, and in Life Sciences and Geography (recommended subjects) OR,
  • Must have completed an NC(V) Level 4 in Primary Agriculture, with a Level 4 in English and at least Level 2 in Math or Level 3 in Math Lit.

Bachelor of Science

  • NSC met with minimum requirements and an APS of 30, including and achieved Level 4 in two of either Life Science, Physical Science or Geography.

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science

  • NSC met with minimum requirements and an APS of 30, including and achieved Level 4 in two of either Life Science, Physical Science or Geography.

School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences

Higher Certificate in Information Communication Technology in User Support

  • NSC with an APS of 20 with Math or 22 with Math Literacy, and an achieved Level 4 in English. Students must also meet the minimum NSC requirements in every other subject OR,
  • A Level 4 NC (V) in an Information Technology and or a Computer Science/Studies discipline.

Diploma in ICT in Applications Development

  • Minimum requirements for a matric certificate with Diploma endorsement should be met. Must attain a minimum Level 4 in English Home Language and Mathematics and a minimum APS score of 24.

School of Early Childhood Education

Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching

  • NSC with a minimum APS of either 26 with Math or 27 with Math Lit. However, applicants are required to have the appropriate combination of recognised NSC subjects, with certain levels of achievement in these subjects.

School of Development Studies

Bachelor of Commerce

  • NSC with an APS of 30 and a Level 4 in Math and English.

Bachelor of Development Studies

  • NSC meeting minimum requirements for Bachelor’s degree entry, with an APS score of 32, and a Level 4 in English, Geography/History and another Social or Commercial Sciences subject.

Bachelor of Administration

  • An NSC with an APS of 32 and a Level 4 in English Home Language and an additional language.

Bachelor of Laws

  • NSC with Bachelor endorsement with an APS of 33. Level 4 in English, and Additional Language, and Math Lit, or alternatively a Level 3 for Math.

School of Hospitality and Tourism Management

Diploma in Hospitality Management

  • Matric certificate with a Diploma endorsement and meeting the minimum English and Math requirements. A minimum APS of 24 with Math or 25 with Math Lit must also be met.

Higher Certificate in Event Management

  • NSC with Diploma/Higher Certificate endorsement with a minimum APS of 19 with Math or 21 with Math Lit/Technical Math. A Level 4 in English and 3 other recommended subjects: Business Studies, Hospitality Studies, and Tourism Discipline, should also be attained.

School of Social Sciences

Bachelor of Arts General

  • NSC with Bachelor entry having achieved an APS of 28. A Level 4 in English and Level 2 with Math and Level 3 Math Lit should also be attained.

Bachelor of Social Work

  • NSC with Bachelor entry having achieved an APS of 32. A Level 4 in English and Level 2 with Math and Level 3 Math Lit should also be attained.
