Millions of people living in South Africa rely on Sassa grants distributed by the South African Social Security Agency to purchase basic goods and services. These grant payments are made at the beginning of each new month.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) distributes more than 18 million permanent social support grants monthly. These Sassa grants ensure that vulnerable people can access basic goods and services.
Sassa payments are made to beneficiaries on the second day of every new month. Sassa grant payments might be made later if the second day of the month falls on a weekend or a public holiday.
Permanent grants distributed by Sassa include the following include the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support grant, Foster Care Grant, Grant in Aid, War Veterans Grant, and the Care Dependency grant.
In February 2023, Sassa will distribute permanent grants from Thursday, 2 February 2023 starting with the Older Persons grants. This will be followed by the distribution of disability grants on Friday, 3 February 2023. The remaining Sassa grants will be paid during the next week.

Sassa reminded clients that they don’t have to collect their monthly Sassa grant payment on the designated day their Sassa grant is to be paid. This is because the money will remain in the benefices account until they choose to use it.
The agency said, “There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed.”
Sassa grant beneficiaries can collect their grants using different payment methods. Payment methods include collecting grants at retail stores and ATMs. Retailers include Shoprite, Checkers, U-save, Pick ‘n Pay and Boxer.
