How to Submit R350 Grant Appeals Under The New Rules

The Sassa R350 Social Relief of Distress grant is being paid to all qualifying beneficiaries. If you are among those that have been meaning to apply for an appeal due to your rejected application status, here is the procedure on how to lodge an appeal for your declined Sassa R350 grant application.

As the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) continues disbursing the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, the agency has also had to address a huge SRD grant payment backlog of applicants who have lodged application appeals after their initial application.

If you are one of the many applicants who saw their SRD grant application be declined and you are not sure about how to go to Sassa to appeal for your R350 grant. This is the appeal process to follow.

How to Submit Sassa R350 Grant Appeal Under New Rules

  1. Visit srd.dsd.gov.za
  2. Click on the green bar that says ‘click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status
  3. Enter your ID number
  4. Enter your cellphone number
  5. Click ‘send pin’ and wait for the SMS which will contain the verification pin
  6. Enter the pin and click ‘submit’
  7. Select the month you are submitting an appeal for
  8. Select the drop down arrow and choose the reason for your appeal
  9. Click ‘submit’

Additionally, you must appeal for each month that your request was rejected. Applications for appeal will be reviewed by an independent tribunal.

Since the Independent Tribunal already had information from applicants from Sassa, their processes were merged with Sassa’s processes, which led to a limited and minimum appeals process.

The Independent Tribunal will then investigate and determine if Sassa made any mistakes in evaluating your application, which consequently resulted in the rejection of your application.

Although it is advised that applicants must file their appeal within the first 30 days after receiving a declined status, 90 days is the deadline. After that, applicants will be informed by Sassa if their appeal has been successful or not.
