Does The SRD Grant Have A Payment Date In 2023?: It is estimated that more than seven million people rely on the Social Relief of Distress grant monthly. However, many of the grant’s beneficiaries have raised questions as to when they will receive their money.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) in Mpumalanga has called on Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant beneficiaries to wait for an SMS before going to withdraw their money at retail merchants.
The message from the Agency’s Mpumalanga branch comes after grant recipients noticed dates when they checked their Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant status. Sassa says this date is not a payment date but rather indicated when the grant was captured on the system.
Sassa added that after the grant is captured in the system, the beneficiary receives the SMS at any time. They must wait for this SMS before they go to grant pay points.
“This is not a payment date. Beneficiaries must wait for SMS payment before they go to withdraw the grant from merchants or banks,” said Sassa.
Sassa explained that this caution was aimed at creating awareness to assist beneficiaries not to incur unnecessary costs and fruitless travelling which results in many complaints received to date.
The SRD grant, also referred to as the R350 grant, does not have payment dates. The grant had payment dates when it was being distributed by the South African post office where beneficiaries would collect their money on allocated days based on the last three digits of their Identification Numbers.
However, the grant is now distributed at retail stores like Pick N Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Checkers and Usave stores.
Sassa has urged all SRD grant beneficiaries to ensure their contact details provided on the SRD grant website is correct. Grant beneficiaries can verify or change contact details on the official R350 grant website.
It’s important that grant beneficiaries provide the correct contact details. Sassa communicated with grant recipients using the information they provide and if this information is correct, the recipient may not know when to collect their SRD grant payment.
