The suspension of ATMs to withdraw social grant funds was the beginning of a sour festive season for grant beneficiaries who are solely dependent on Sassa grants to survive. As the month of January is around the corner, Sassa has released a Sassa grant payment schedule for the next Sassa payment cycle.
Postbank suspended ATM withdrawals for South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grants for beneficiaries using the gold Sassa card to make withdrawals for the month of December. According to the bank, this decision was taken following an unusual activity that had been picked up in its systems.
As the second day of the month falls on a weekend or public holiday, the Sassa grant payments will take place on the following work day from 3 January 2023 and arrangements to disburse funds will then begin on this day.
Here’s the grant payment dates for January 2023:
- Older Person’s Grants: 03 January 2023
- Disability Grants: 04 January 2023
- All Other Grants: 05 January 2023
According to Sassa, payments made during this cycle will be monitored so that payments to stick to paying are made to the right social grant, to the right person, at the right time and place.
Unlike during the December payment cycle, Sassa grant funds may be withdrawn by making use of multiple ways available including retailers and ATMs.
As there might be a lot of transactions that beneficiaries will need to make, they have been cautioned to exercise care in accessing their social grants.
This includes individuals who use their Sassa grant payment cards to make purchases rather than carrying large amounts of money and to also make sure that they get their card back after every purchase.
