The previous year ended on a not-so-good-note for social grant recipients as they were not administered on time. The government agency has promised its clients that everything will proceed as planned in January 2023.
The end of 2022 was a rocky year-end for the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), with delayed social grant payments being a major issue that took centre stage in November and December.
For some Sassa grant recipients that solely rely on the government agency’s financial assistance, the end of 2023 was a difficult time for them.
In the November 2023 payment cycle, social grant payments were delayed due to technical glitches at the South African Post Office.
Postbank picked up suspicious activity on its system, with its intent to protect beneficiaries from card fraud, ATM withdrawals were then halted for the festive season.
Pitsi has reiterated that issues of the two payment cycles have been put to bed, and 2023 payments for January will be disbursed as per the payment schedule below:
- OLDER PERSONS GRANT: 03/01/2023
- DISABILITY GRANTS: 04/01/2023
- CHILDREN’S GRANTS AND OTHER GRANTS: 05/01/2023
According to Sassa, there is no set payment date for the Sassa Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) grant because it is a temporary grant.
Instead, SRD grant recipients will be notified of their grant payment dates via text message and they also have an option of checking when they can collect their monies on the official SRD grant website.
Beneficiaries may collect their January 2023 social grants payments using three different methods, which includes receiving their grant directly into their bank account, via the CashSend option or using their Sassa cards at retailers.
