Sassa Payment Dates For 2023

Approximately 18 million South Africans vulnerable to poverty or in need of state support receive social grants, relief assistance or social relief paid by the government. These grants are disbursed by South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). The largest group that receive social grants are Black and Coloured South Africans.

If you receive social grants for the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant or Children’s Grant, you may be interested in knowing your Sassa payment dates. As a beneficiary, you will receive your grant payment. Below you will find a list of the payment dates for Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant and Children’s Grant. Other types of social grants are paid after these permanent grants.

Sassa Grant recipients may collect their money any time after the payment date. You don’t have to withdraw your money on the exact payment date, your money will remain in your card until you use it.

Sassa grant beneficiaries can collect their grant payments using a variety of payment options. Payment options include collections at South African Post Bank pay points and ATM withdrawals at retail stores such as Shoprite, Checkers, U-Save, Pick ‘n Pay, and Boxer.

SASSA Payment Dates 2023

If you are a SASSA beneficiary, you may be wondering when the grant payments will be made. Below is a list of the SASSA payment dates for the months of February and March 2023.

Sassa begins distributing these permanent grants on the second day of every new month. However, if the second day of a month falls on a weekend or public holiday, grants will be distributed on the following working day.

January 2023 Sassa Grant Payment Dates

  • The Older Persons Grant (as well as any grants linked to these accounts) will be paid on 3 January 2023.
  • The Disability Grant (as well as any grants linked to these accounts) will be paid on 4 January 2023.
  • All other grants will be paid on 5 January 2023.

February 2023 Sassa Grant Payment Dates

  • The Older Persons Grant (as well as any grants linked to these accounts) will be paid on 2 February 2023.
  • The Disability Grant (as well as any grants linked to these accounts) will be paid on 3 February 2023.
  • All other grants will be paid on 6 February 2023.

March 2023 Sassa Grant Payment Dates

  • The Older Persons Grant (as well as any grants linked to these accounts) will be paid on 2 March 2023.
  • The Disability Grant (as well as any grants linked to these accounts) will be paid on 3 March 2023.
  • All other grants will be paid on 6 March 2023.

Sassa Grant Amounts

The grant amounts that SASSA beneficiaries in South Africa will receive are now as follows:

  • Old age and disability grants – R1 990
  • Persons over the age of 75 and war veterans – R2 010
  • Foster care – R1 070
  • Care dependency – R1 990
  • Child support – R480

In October 2022, the Disability Grant increased from R1 890 to R1 990 and the War Veterans Grant increased from R2 000 to increase to R2 010. In April 2022, the Old Age Grant increased to R1 980 and further increased to R1 990 in October 2022.

For people older than 75 years, in April 2022, the grant increased from R2 000 and then to R2 010 in October 2022. These grants amounts have already been confirmed by SASSA.

Sassa Grant Payment Methods

SASSA offers various payment methods for grants:

  1. Cash Paypoint: Grant recipients can receive their payments at designated cash paypoints, such as banks or retailers such as Shoprite, Checkers, U-Save, Pick ‘n Pay, and Boxer.
  2. Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT): Payments can be deposited directly into a recipient’s bank account.
  3. Sassa Card: Recipients can receive their grants on a SASSA gold card, which can be used to withdraw cash at ATMs or make purchases at retailers.
  4. Mobile Money: Recipients can receive their grants via a mobile money transfer service, such as M-Pesa.
