Western Cape Schools Now Reviewing Admissions For 2024

Grade 1 and 8 school admission applications in the Western Cape closed a few months ago, in April. Now, schools are reviewing the list of applications.

After the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) closed school admission applications in April, parents then received their applications outcomes and had until the end of May to confirm placements. Now, schools in the province are reviewing admissions lists.

After reviewing the list of admissions, schools will then start contacting parents who applied on the system but didn’t get a place for their child at a school.

After applications close and parents confirm and deny school offers, this opens up more placements for those who either didn’t get to apply or weren’t made an offer. This is made possible by the system activating the first successful option where parents did not confirm.

Parents and guardians have been urged to stay in touch with the schools that they applied to and ask that the learner be placed on a waiting list.

How To Track Your WCED School Application

In order to track your WCED admissions application you must do the following:

  1. Go to the Western Cape school admissions website
  2. Go to “Track Application Status”
  3. Select the name of the learner
  4. Under “Application Status”, it will inform the parent as to whether their application was successful, unsuccessful or whether the learner has been placed on a waiting list.

What if I missed the deadline?

Parents who missed the application period may apply for WCED admission by completing a learner placement form and submitting this at their education district office.

Applying past the deadline means that you will have to wait until all placement offers are made to on-time applicants. This means that your application will be processed once the available placements have been confirmed.

When will learners be placed?

The WCED admissions team will place and resolve outstanding cases of learners who were not placed from the beginning of September until 15 December.
