How To Submit A Sassa Grant Application For July 2023
The first step individuals need to take to start the process of applying for a Sassa grant is to visit their nearest Sassa office. This is because applications for permanent grants must be completed at a Sassa office in the presence of a Sassa official.
It is important to note that it does not cost any money to submit a grant application.
Sassa acknowledged that some people in need of a grant are not able to make the trip to a Sassa office to submit a grant application due to illness, old age or disability.
These individuals may send a family member or friend to apply for the grant on their behalf. The grant applicant will be required to write a letter authorising the grant application.
Grant applicants must ensure they meet all the eligibility criteria for the grant they are applying for. Applicants are also required to submit documentation in support of their grant application.
Once the grant application is completed, applicants will be issued with a receipt/reference number. Grant applicants must keep their receipt/reference number as it is the only proof that an application has been submitted.
If the grant application is successful, the beneficiary will be paid from the date on which the completed grant application was submitted. It’s important to note that grant applications are only considered complete once all the required documents have been submitted to Sassa.
This does not apply to the Foster child grants, which are instead paid from the date of the court order.
If your grant application is rejected by Sassa, you have the right to submit an appeal. It’s important to note that Sassa must inform you in writing why your grant application is rejected.
Once you know why your grant application is rejected and believe Sassa was wrong to reject your application, you can submit a grant appeal application. The staff at the local office will advise on the process you need to follow.
